Farewells and Private Communions Reverend Mother gathers together her modest possessions as she prepares for her departure. As she packs, Father Cooper comes by to offer his farewells. Cradled in hands is the communion kit he carried for all of his travels prior to his arrival at the convent. "One for the road?", he asks solemnly, knowing that he cannot convince her to stay. With a silent prayer, he kneels at a small table and carefully prepares a final communion for each of them. Father Cooper and Reverend Mother each give the other communion in turn. And with the taste of the sacrament still on their lips, they break their vows one final time.
