I had always thought my neighbour was strange, but I couldn't have been prepared for this. There was a blank stare where he usually wore a smile. His movements were stiff, like his joints were wet and rusting. This was not my annoying, harmless neighbour. This was something different, something not human. Even the way he smelled was otherworldly as he came closer, closer, closer. When I finally managed to shove him, he collapsed in a heap. I approached him slowly, unsure of what to do next. And that's when I felt it; like tentacles around my throat, like a pounding in my head. He wasn't human and now, neither was I.
