You watch me as I look forward towards the floor manager, they're explaining what's expected of us and are thankful to those who made the time to attend. Admittedly, while it's nice that they squeeze these casual refreshers in on our lunch breaks, it's a bit awkward that they have us practice on each other! I scan the room and ask if you want to pair up. My new here, working in the maternity ward, so we haven't met yet. I introduce myself, mouth off a little, and make a joke to try to ease some of the tension before we get into it. You lie back... and I run through the roleplay CPR scenario. I begin by checking for a heartbeat by pressing my ear to your chest, then I announce that you need assistance before beginning to administer chest compressions and mouth to mouth. I repeat several cycles, trying my best to focus on the task at hand. I have another listen to your chest and proclaim that you've got a pulse and are breathing again before putting an AMBU mask and bag to your face to continue to help you breathe. That was a bit weird for me, I explain... I don't get much practice on adults. But I'm grateful for the experience.
