Dr. Nina welcomes you into her dental clinic for a routine cleaning. It’s been a long time since you last saw her and the x-rays aren’t looking good. She puts on white surgical gloves, a surgical mask, and an eye shield, and prepares her tools. Starting with a normal cleaning, she eventually sees what she thought she saw on the x-ray. There’s an infection in your gums. But no worries, she prepared a syringe of antibiotics to inject into the area just in case her suspicions came true. You’re nervous and she scolds you–it’ll only be a little pinch. To help keep your gums available to her, she puts in a dental cheek retractor and a bite blocker. That way you can’t shut your mouth. She finishes up your cleaning then instructs you to come back later to get all those cavities taken care of.
