In this warped mirror of our world, criminal punishment is dealt with in the form of compulsory diminishment of material stature. Once reduced, diminished persons are stripped of their rights as citizens and commoditized as purchasable items. Subjects can be labeled and sold as pets, items, food, and much else. As this system bred industrial success, smaller crimes and even economically vulnerable persons become subject to diminishment for even the smallest transgressions. Once sentenced, they can either be violently collected or surrender themselves, now labeled as willing. Jane decides on a whim to try out of these 'willing' tinies before bed.
