What do James Bond, Don Draper, The Dude, Homer Simpson, and Ron Burgundy have in common? They all have their signature beverage. And they all have a woman. You finally convinced that cute cashier from the poke bowl place with the nice lips to get dinner on Friday night. You went all out, got a new shirt, some new kicks, really want to make a good impression for this fish girl. And she’s into it. You look great, you make great conversation, and you don’t smell like fish, which is big for her. She leans over and whispers in your ear that she wants to have some beverages back at your place. Initially you panic, but then you remember, you’ve watched this video, you’ve got three classic cocktail recipes up your freshly pressed sleeves. Show this fish girl what you can do ;) Old Fashioned Ingredients: 2 oz Bourbon (not the cheap shit) 1G sugar 2 dashes bitters Orange rind Maraschino cherries Sugar and Bitters Into a rocks glass, combine the sugar and bitters. Muddle the mixture. A lot. Grind the sugar until it dissolves. Add Ice Not too much. Add the Bourbon Does the quality of the Bourbon matter? What do you think? Since Bourbon is a pretty important part of this beverage, it definitely does. You want a whiskey that isn't too harsh, but still lets you know it's there. A more aged Bourbon or Rye will add a deeper, richer flavor. So get something a bit aged, from a company that uses quality ingredients for a deep flavor with a smooth finish. Garnish with an orange rind and Maraschino cherries. Mojito Ingredients: 10 fresh mint leaves (Mentha x Vilosa if you fancy) 1/2 lime, cut into 4 wedges 2 TBSP white sugar 1 1/2 oz White Rum 1/2 cup soda water 1 cup ice cubes Slice of lime for garnish Muddle the Mint and Lime Drop in the mint leaves and one lime wedge into a Highball glass. Use a muddler to crush the mint and lime. This releases all the mint oils and lime juice. Add 2 more lime wedges and the sugar, and muddle again to release the rest of the lime juice. Do not strain. Add Ice and Rum Fill the glass almost to the top with ice cubes. Pour the rum over the ice. Top with Soda Water. Add soda water to fill the glass. Stir it good to mix all the flavors. Real good. Garnish with the remaining lime wedge and enjoy. Moscow Mule Ingredients: 2 oz Vodka 1/2 oz fresh lime juice 4-6 oz Ginger Beer Ice Lime slices for garnish Moscow Mules are traditionally made in copper mugs, but realistically you can use anything. Fill the mug with ice cubes. Pour in 2 ounces of Vodka over the ice. Moscow is in Russia, so we're using Russian Vodka, it's only right. Add Lime Juice Squeeze in 1/2 ounce of fresh lime juice (about half a lime). Top with Ginger Beer Pour 4-6 ounces of Ginger Beer over the Vodka and lime juice. Adjust to taste. Garnish with one (or a few) lime wedges and enjoy.
